The data science community has officially landed in Ghent! It arrived on 29th February with a first meetup event, which Yorick and I attended.
It was a real delight to see so many people, more than 130, with a strong interest in the development of data science in and around Ghent. The diversity of the attendees and of the presentation content was an important part of the success of this event.
Philippe Van Impe, who founded the data science community in Brussels two years ago, and Sam Rédelé introduced the meetup and gave us great starting vibrations.
Next to officially introducing the Data Science community in Ghent, the meetup included three strong presentations.
NGData showed us how they supported a telco company with turning call record details into insights to be used for better targeting. iMinds enlightened the audience on how sensors and data science are changing the way cities operate. And Data for Good opened our eyes on how data can be used for a better world.
The networking drink, in the historic Vooruit building, was a great continuation of the event.
We are already looking forward to attending the next meetup on 14th April. Join us to grow the community!
